​Laura, Hannah and Megan are three sisters who live at Wuthering Eyre, a moor side farmhouse whose name is inspired by their love of the Brontë sisters. But there is danger on the moors - from this Gothic landscape come old friends and new threats. What is the deep, dark secret of Wuthering Eyre?

‘The Tenants of Wuthering Eyre’ is a humorous, supernatural thriller set on the present day North Yorkshire Moors. The season is turning, the nights are drawing in. Three sisters ‘role-play’ the Brontës’ famous novels, unaware that an old magic has been released. Before the night is over, death will stalk the moors and long forgotten secrets will be revealed.

 

Written by John Pattison and Alison Watt, the team that brought you ‘Summer’s Edge’ and ‘SnOwQuEeN’, this contemporary comedy-thriller weaves together the work of the Brontë sisters, supernatural moorland legend and the short, sharp, shock of modern reality to explore the darker side of human behaviour at Christmas.

The ‘TIS THE SEASON’ Project…

​

‘Tis the Season’ was a new writing project from Beach Hut Theatre Company. Taking place across two venues and written by dramatists local to Scarborough, here were seven brand new plays exploring the festive season, warts and all. Forget the media hype, this is Christmas as it really is, not only with its light-hearted side of dressing up, present giving and family activities but also with its darker side of binge-drinking, domestic violence, loneliness and debt. Alongside 'The Tenants of Wuthering Eyre' were six new short plays by new and emerging local writers:

‘CHRISTMAS CRACK-UPS’

Does the prospect of Christmas thrill you at the thought of caring and sharing? Or does it make you hide away with the Prosecco? How does Christmas feel when you haven’t seen your family for years or you can’t afford it? Or if the neighbours have a fancier Christmas tree than you do? And what is Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’s problem, anyway!

‘Christmas Crack-Ups’ comprises six short plays, some jolly, some dramatic, but all thought-provoking and relevant to the way we handle Christmas in today’s society. Looking at debt, loneliness and alcohol consumption as well as tackling the madcap world of Christmas decoration, finding that perfect present, and the social glue provided by support agencies, these plays are both a moving and fun-filled antidote to the hype surrounding the festive season.
