Beach Hut Theatre Company teamed up with various local organisations to present a weekend of free Arts events to commemorate the 1914 Bombardment of Scarborough.
John Pattison wrote and composed a powerful and moving musical drama documentary which was presented by six local actors and musicians in St Nicholas Gardens behind the Town Hall.  It was performed at 8pm on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September. 
This production told the story of the bombardment and gave an insight into what was going on in Scarborough 100 years ago. A talented cast of four, Will Duffield, Georgie Samuels, Harry Bullen and Maisie Atkinson used a combination of song, characterisation and narration to tell this remarkable story.
 
The music was performed live by the composer using a specially created orchestral keyboard rig alongside more conventional instruments and some stunning visuals created for the event by video artist Liam Watt Pattison. Beach Hut Theatre Company Artistic Director Alison Watt was dramaturg.
 
During the day on Sunday 28th, from 10.30am - 4.30pm St Nicholas Gardens came alive to the sights and sounds of World War One. At the Foreshore Road entrance to the gardens the Scarborough Museums Trust and Scarborough Maritime Heritage had marquees with historical displays and exhibitions. Also on this level was a stage where the Saturday and Sunday evening performances of ‘Remember Scarborough!’ were presented. Between 2pm and 4.30pm a series of Pierrot shows were presentated by Yorkshire Coast College Performing Arts Students.
 
Walking through the gardens took visitors through a Remembrance Route, which honoured the 18 local people who died during or as a result of the intensive shelling by two German battleships on 16th December 1914.  At the top of the gardens by the statue of Queen Victoria was be a theatre tent, where rehearsed readings of six World War one plays by writers from the Stephen Joseph Theatre Outreach programme were presented by Yorkshire Coast College HNC Acting students. These plays were previously presented as part of the Plays and Pinot season at the Stephen Joseph Theatre. This production was directed by Alison Watt.
 
In the Sunken Gardens opposite the Royal Hotel, which had one hundred and sixty windows smashed during the bombardment, students from Yorkshire Coast College's Fine Art and Art Foundation degrees spent the day creating a giant artwork depicting the bombardment on large canvasses. Visitors were able to look at the student's research materials and the artwork that they created in the lead up to this weekend event.
